On May 1, 2026, members of the BHSS Thespians came together with Theater South to celebrate the end of the year. Dressed to impress, the event included a red carpet entrance, dinner, speeches, awards, and announcement of next year’s planned productions.
The evening began with a red-carpet entrance into the atrium for South’s cast and crew. The event opened with BHSS Theater Director Britney Kouma welcoming everyone and recounting events from the previous year. This started a lively discussion about what worked, and what didn’t work so well over the past year, so that next year Theater South can be even better!

Dinner from Chick-fil-A followed. While everyone ate, each person received a special memento, a small jar filled with candy with the cast or crewmember’s nickname or title on it. For example, based on my part in Grease where I was shoved into a locker, mine was tagged “Best Locker Buddy.”
Following dinner, the event moved to the Large Group Room for the unveiling of next year’s shows. For the fall, Theater South will produce three One Acts, two of which will be student directed. The one acts are: Tracks by Peter Tarsi, directed by rising senior Madilyn Mason; The Jealous Husband, by Molière and translated by Albert Bermel, directed by rising senior Audrey Rusch; and Yellow Wallpaper, adapted by Kathryn Funkhouser based off of the original book written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Yellow Wallpaper will be directed by Brintey Kouma and will be an entry into the Thespians competition.
Graduating seniors Christopher Nunez, Lulu Novak, and Ruby Lowe had the task of then revealing next year’s spring musical. They did this with a slide containing images of different musicals on it. They used silly and corny wordplays to eliminate shows one by one that we would not be doing. “Some of these shows are out of our price range, so … Bye Bye Birdie!” This revealed the title of the musical for the spring projection, Carrie: The Musical.

The evening closed with awards. Cast and crewmates came up to the podium and read out the names for the awards, including Dynamic Duo (Bentley Eads and Phoebe Mendota), Blackout Boss (Molayo Jacobs), and others. Following the awards we toasted our seniors.
Even though it was bittersweet to say goodbye, especially to our seniors, a fun night was had by all. Stay tuned in the fall for audition callouts for the One Acts.
