What To Expect At Auditions
Non MusicalsYou DON'T need to prepare anything!
At auditions you will be handed an audition form to fill out. There will be two parts: a digital and physical portion. On the digital portion of the form, you will be providing us with your name and personal information (i.e. a personal email) so that we can contact you! We do this so there are fewer errors from trying to read your handwriting! The second part will ask questions about previous experience and your comfortability to portray certain relationships. The stage management team will provide you with a number to determine which group you will audition with. Please write the number at the top of your audition form. The director will ask for five to ten auditioners to start handing out sides. Audition sides are little snippets of the plays dialogue for each character the director wants to see. You will be given a few minutes to practice the side in the hall with your group before you are called back in to audition. Once you are done reading your sides you might be asked to wait, be given a new side, or thanked for your audition and dismissed. Please listen to instructions and ask the Stage Management team questions if you get confused! |
MusicalsYou NEED to prepare about 30-60 seconds of a song from any musical!

Then the audition group will be split in half. One group will go to audition with the director, and the other group will stay to learn choreography and audition for the music director. Audition with the Director: The director will hand out sides. Audition sides are little snippets of the plays dialogue for each character the director wants to see. You will be given a few minutes to practice the side in the hall with your group before you are called back in to audition. Once you are done reading your sides you might be asked to wait, be given a new side, or thanked for your audition and dismissed. Please listen to instructions and ask the Stage Management team questions if you get confused! Choreography and Audition with the Music Director: You will start to learn the short audition choreography from the choreographer. While you learn the steps, the music director will pull one auditioner at a time based on the number given to you at the beginning of the audition process. With the music director you will be asked to perform your 30-60 second song. The director might give you corrections or run you through some scales to determine your range. Once you are dismissed, you will return to learn the choreography. With the choreographer you will learn all of the steps to the audition choreography. You will run the steps as a group a couple times to get comfortable before you will be broken up into groups of four to audition for the choreographer. Callbacks If you are called back for a character that has a song in the show, please review the song(s). You might be asked to run through them in front of the directors. |
If you do not receive a callback or are dismissed quickly, please still keep an eye out for the cast list! Sometimes roles will be determined during the original audition process, so a callback is not needed. Especially for ensemble roles!
